Pichi Animal Facts with Pictures

The Pichi Animal or dwarf armadillo is a small armadillo native to Argentina and Chile. It is the only living member of the genus Zaedyus, Pichi Animal and the only armadillo to hibernate.

  • Status: Near threarened

When threarened, the Pichi squats down and draws its sharp-clawed and draws its sharp-clawed feet under its body, relying on its wide, low, domed body armour for protection; or it wedges itself into a burrow with its armour facing outwards. This small armadillo digs a short tunnel for shelter and eats various small insects, worms, other invertebrates, and sometimes also carrion.
